In Greene County district court Katelynn Jean Fees, 21, of Jamaica was granted a deferred judgment Jan. 22 after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She will be on informal probation for one year, and she must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She must pay a $315 civil penalty with a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, $600 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees, and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. Joshua Michael Ackerson, 30, of Fort Dodge was sentenced Jan. 22 to 60 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, amended from theft- second degree. He will be credited for time served and “good time” granted by the sheriff. He must pay sheriff’s room and board fees for the time he serves. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Court costs were $521.98. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Renae Jane Baugh, 37, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated- second offense; August Kristopher Halverson, 20, of Jefferson, OWI- first offense; Daniel Joseph Tasler, 27, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of prescription drug; Crawford James Petterson, 18, of Jefferson, criminal mischief- fourth degree and trespass causing injury or damage more than $200; Michael Allen Olson, 57, of Jefferson, assault on persons in certain occupation; and Shane Joe Spaulding, 39, of Bayard, burglary- third degree, theft- second degree, forgery (11 counts), and ongoing criminal conduct. Trial dates were set for March 5 for every defendant but Spaulding. His trial date was set for April 9.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Jan. 25 as follows: Douglas Wayne Shutt, 58, of Grand Junction, theft- first degree; Thomas Richard Langford, 52, of Dana, OWI- first offense; and Larry Dean Teeples, 77, of Jefferson, extortion.
